-SUNGURA tells the story of JOHN CHIBADURA and the traditional music of Zimbabwe played with electric guitars. This African country has brought up dozens of legendary musicians and now the sons follow in their father's footsteps. This music is absolutely unique and you can't find it in any other country.
It was John Peel who played music from Zimbabwe for the first time on radio in early 80ies.The way the guitars are played was something totally diferent from anything that was usually played anywhere in the world. This exotic and unique sound was originally created in Zimbabwe and became very popular in other African countries like Mozambique, South Africa, Kenia etc. but also in Europe and other parts of the world. Bands like THE BHUNDU BOYS and THE FOUR BROTHERS made it extremely popular in the 80ies. This documentary film called SUNGURA tells the story of JOHN CHIBADURA and other legendary musicians from Zimbabwe who are no longer alive. It is dedicated to them and shows the sons follow in their fathers' footsteps.
